FAQs
What will we work on first?
It depends. Every athlete has different goals and different needs. Your plan will be customized for you. It is well known in the athletic community that Nutrition and Sleep have the biggest impact on Recovery. When we maximize recovery, we build and perform at our peak. Knowing this is true and actually implementing changes are very different. I will help you to identify areas of improvement and give you the knowledge and tools to make lasting behaviors. All aspects of health play a role, we may just start here.
If I am a minor, do my parents have to attend sessions?
I believe that every athlete needs to be able to communicate for themselves. If there are specific concerns that we feel would be enhanced by a parent joining our session, we can certainly do so. Sometimes this is helpful when discussing meal planning.
Can you diagnose or prescribe medications?
I am not a physician and cannot diagnose disease or prescribe medications. Additionally, if there are supplements that you want more information about, I can provide resources but the decision to add a supplement should be reviewed by your doctor.
Do you take insurance?
No, unfortunately I am not able to take insurance. If you have a HSA or Flex Spending Account, I encourage you to contact the administrator to see if they will cover health coaching reimbursements.
When and how will we meet?
Prior to starting our relationship, we will agree on a regular time and day of the week to meet. We can meet in person, although I find that most athletes are already so busy they would prefer to find a quiet place to join a zoom or conference call.
Are you an athletic trainer?
No, I am not a personal trainer, physical therapist or psychologist. There are excellent professionals in all of theses areas, many you may already be working with. As a Health Coach, I help to create a well balance foundation to allow you to thrive in your athletic pursuits. I will not hesitate to refer you to a specialist if something arises that I am not qualified to address.
Can you guarantee results?
A Health Coach, just like an athletic coach or therapist, cannot guarantee you results, only you have control over your destiny. I will provide you with the information, resources, motivation and accountability to put you in the best position to succeed.
I don’t consider myself a competitive athlete, can I still work with you to improve my health?
The foundational health that allows athletes to optimize their performance are the same that every individual can benefit from as well. Athletes typically have very defined performance goals while a weekend warrior may focus on long-term health and see where it takes them from there.
